Emerald ash borer (EAB), Agrilus planipennis Fairmaire, is an exotic beetle that was discovered in southeastern Michigan near Detroit and Windsor, Ontario in the summer of 2002. Before June of 2002, it had never been found in North America. The timeline below illustrates the spread of EAB by state by year. Note: The timeline is best viewed in desktop view.

2002

EAB was confirmed in Michigan in the summer of 2002.

EAB was confirmed in Ontario in the summer of 2002.

2003

On February 28, EAB was confirmed in Ohio.

On August 28, EAB was confirmed in Maryland.

Later in the year, EAB was detected in Fairfax County, Virginia and was successfully eradicated.

2004

On March 17, EAB was eradicated from Maryland.

On April 21, EAB was confirmed in Indiana.

2005

No new states reported the presence of EAB.

2006

On June 9, EAB was confirmed in Illinois.

On August 21, EAB was reconfirmed in Maryland.

2007

On June 27, EAB was confirmed in Pennsylvania.

EAB was confirmed later that fall in West Virginia.

2008

On July 14, EAB was reconfirmed in Virginia.

On July 23, EAB was confirmed in Missouri.

EAB was confirmed later that summer in Quebec.

On August 1, EAB was confirmed in Wisconsin.

2009

On May 13, EAB was confirmed in Minnesota.

On May 22, EAB was confirmed in Kentucky.

On June 17, EAB was confirmed in New York.

2010

On May 24, EAB was confirmed in Iowa.

On July 27, EAB was confirmed in Tennessee.

2011

No new states reported the presence of EAB.

2012

On July 16, EAB was confirmed in Connecticut.

On August 31, EAB was confirmed in Massachusetts.

On August 29, EAB was confirmed in Kansas.

2013

On March 28, EAB was confirmed in New Hampshire.

On June 17, EAB was confirmed in North Carolina.

On July 13, EAB was confirmed in Georgia.

On September 13, EAB was confirmed in Colorado.

2014

On May 21, EAB was confirmed in New Jersey.

On July 18, EAB was confirmed in Arkansas.

2015

On February 18, EAB was confirmed in Louisiana.

2016

On May 6, EAB was confirmed in Texas

On November 8, EAB was confirmed in Alabama.

2017

On August 3, EAB was confirmed in South Carolina.

2018

In February, EAB was confirmed in Vermont.

In May, EAB was confirmed in Maine.

EAB was confirmed in Rhode Island.

In Spring, EAB was confirmed in South Dakota.

EAB was confirmed in Nova Scotia.

EAB was confirmed in New Brunswick.
